Visitors to Maryknoll in Cambodia

Rev. Rick Tofani is a priest of the diocese of Trenton, NJ. He is pastor of a parish there, but is also director of the diocesan mission office. As part of his job, every year he travels to a mission country and then gives presentations about mission and the world beyond the US borders to church communities in his area. In early January, he came to Cambodia for the first time, and Maryknoll was his host.

Rick Tofani at the Deaf Development Program    Suffering no apparent early effects of jetlag after arriving less than 24 hours before, Rick's first visit to a Maryknoll project was at the Deaf Development Program which became Maryknoll's responsibility in 2001.

Rick with deaf students    Inside DDP, Rick observed young deaf adults who are part of a committee developing new signs for CSL, the national Cambodia Sign Language.

Rick at the Russian Hospital    Rick also visited a deaf person with AIDS at a battered hospital built by the Russians after the defeat of the Khmer Rouge.

Rick at the Disability Action Council    The second Maryknoll project Rick visited was Kathy Kremer's work with children with intellectual disabilities, based at the Disability Action Council. Here Kathy and Rick talk with Ngy San, the director of DAC.
