Little Sprouts Project

Little Sprouts is an offshoot of the main Seedling of Hope project. Shortly after John and Kathy Tucker began their ministry after language school, Seedling began to receive more and more young children whose parents had died of AIDS. The Tuckers began taking in the infants with AIDS because of mother-to-child transmission, and now have four group homes for these children. The pictures below are from a "Thank-you Day" on 18 September 2003 in appreciation of the many people who help the program.

Paola leads a song Paola is a nurse with the Italian Lay Mission Community, a group of missioners who take perpetual promises. She has been with the Little Sprouts program for about a year, offering not only her medical skills and experience but also her warm presence to all and her musical ability. Here she leads the Little Sprouts kids in a song to start off the thank-you program.

Dr. Marissa receives a T-shirt All the Maryknoll visitors and the staff and special friends of Little Sprouts received a T-shirt to mark the occasion. Here Dr. Marissa receives hers. She is a physician who donates many hours to the care of the Little Sprouts and is always available when they need the care only a doctor can give.

Some of the Little Sprouts gesture to a song The Little Sprouts children showed what they can do now that they are healthy again. Here they make gestures to accompany a song. Many of these children are unrecognizable from just a year ago when they first came to the group homes. The kids now have a future because of the anti-retroviral drugs they are taking which should keep them alive until adulthood.

CRS visitors see how their money is used CRS (Catholic Relief Services) is one of the major funders of the Seedling of Hope and the related projects like Little Sprouts. Here the CRS director and a visiting CRS official from the U.S. talk about the progress of the children with Maryknoll's Jim Noonan (in T-shirt) and Regina Pellicore.
