Maryknoll Cambodia Planning Meeting 2001

Maryknoll Planning Meeting

The Maryknoll NGO in Cambodia periodically undertakes long-term planning. The goals are to look at and evaluate our current ministries and projects and to discern new situations and needs that we might be able to address given our area of work, our resources, and the nature of our organization.

Maryknoll Cambodia went on a three-day planning meeting from Wednesday, 28 March, to Friday, 30 March 2001 at L'Emprevu, a small get-away just outside of Phnom Penh. Below are some photographs of the proceedings and the venue.

First we met in a large circle.

We started off in small groups to talk about what is best and worst in our experience of Cambodia, and how we fit into the Maryknoll group here. Then we came back together as a large group.

Meeting at a long table

The little resort had a meeting room for groups such as ours, but the air conditioning wasn't adequate for the weather. Meeting by the windows was especially bad when the sun was from that side.

The little bungalows for sleeping

The little resort only has single rooms for 20 people but was quite adequate for our group of 13. Each of us had one of these little cabins for sleeping.

The resort swimming pool

The center of the resort layout is a really nice swimming pool and deck. The cost was extremely low by US standards but we are always aware of the desperately poor people just over the fence.

Eating lunch

Our group was just the right size for the accommodations at L'Emprevu. We ate our meals at an outside table near the pool.

Another meeting table configuration

Each of us prepared and presented a short description of our ministries and then answered questions. This gave us a current overview of our Maryknoll involvement in Cambodia.

One of the prayer times

Prayer is always an important part of our meetings as it is of our ministries, and we incorporated the various ideas we were hearing.

Maryknoll group photo 2001

Our last official action was a group photo outside the meeting room. In two weeks we will be down to 12 people as John Barth returns to the US for Society service.
