January, 2009 -- Susan Sporl is a member of the Maryknoll Lay Missioners who came to Cambodia in January, 2009. After her orientation at Maryknoll, New York, Susan first flew to Thailand where she spent ten days with the Maryknoll community from various countries in South and Southeast Asia, participating in a retreat and several meetings. Then she came to Phnom Penh, her mission assignment for the next three years. |

After the liturgy, the Cambodia mission team has a dinner together. Usually five or ten friends of Maryknoll, people who appreciate the opportunity to pray together in the middle of the week, join the mission team for the liturgy and for the dinner. Here Susan is speaking with Sr. Pauline, a Presentation Sister from Manhattan who is visiting the Maryknoll projects this week. |

Each month Maryknoll Cambodia celebrates the birthdays of the members born in that month. Susan was lucky to be part of the birthday celebration her first time at the dinner. She shared the honors with Sami Scott and Lisa Pirie as Sr. Pauline watched them blow out the candles on the birthday cakes. |
