Dr. Parichart Sunanbubbha, a university lecturer, spoke to us on the status of women in Buddhism.

Buddhist nuns are called mae chis. These three women came from northern Thailand and spent the entire time at the ashram with us. They offered insights and answered questions at different times and also led us in various forms of Buddhist meditation. They became our good friends.

Phra Acharn Phaisal Visalo is a Buddhist monk at the forefront of the movement called "Engaged Buddhism" which seeks to involve Buddhism in social action, especially around issues of peace and justice and the environment.

Some of the Maryknollers in Thailand work with Burmese monks who have fled from persecution in Burma. Several of them came to our workshop to speak of their experiences and practice their English.

The Venerable Yos Hut Khemacaro, from Wat Lanka in Phnom Penh, came to speak to us of the experience of Buddhism in Cambodia with all that that country has undergone in the last half century.

Antony Fernando is a Catholic theologian from Sri Lanka who has spent many years studying and in dialogue with Buddhism. He was our main presenter for the five-day workshop. We especially appreciated his participation since he came at the last minute when another facilitator became ill.
