Ice Cream for St. Teresa of Avila

15 October 2004

Conversation at the sisters' house

The Maryknoll Sisters have a long-standing tradition of celebrating the feast of St. Teresa of Avila with ice cream. The sisters' houses around the world all participate, and in Cambodia, the sisters invite all the other Maryknollers to celebrate with them. Tonight we had supper at their house and then it was time for the ice cream, chocolate and butterscotch syrups, and nuts for sundaes. And before and after there was time for plenty of conversation. Here Charlie Dittmeier, Myriam Frys, and Judy Helein listen to Helene O'Sullivan's story.

Ice cream is served

After a buffet-style meal, with different groups eating throughout the house, it was time for the ice cream. All were invited to make a sundae with the chocolate syrup, butterscotch syrup, nuts, and various flavors of ice cream available.

Washing the dishes

After the meal and the ice cream an exuberant crew of dish-washers was assembled and made the work look like fun.

More conversation in the kitchen

Then when the dishes were dried and put away, there was time for more talking before the crowd started for their various homes, all within walking distance of the Maryknoll office.
